2020 Facemask Campaign

2020.03.12568

Starting from January 27, 2020, Vancouver Island College began a Facemask Campaign, in response to the recent Coronavirus outbreak. The goal was to raise money and awareness for students suffering from the issue in China. Word was spread through social media and the total sum of donations eventually reached CAD$4800, which was then given to China Children and Teenagers' Foundation (CCTF), who produced face masks. We reached out to families throughout our community as well, informing them of steps that should be taken in order to protect themselves and their children from being infected. Additionally, an event was held at Dover Bay Secondary School, where a banner with the message “Be Strong China” was created, and students were encouraged to sign their names or write a message to children overseas, displaying their condolence for endangered students. Through this event, Vancouver Island College wished not only to raise money for face masks in China, but also to give Chinese students hope, knowing that we are rooting for them.
